Barbora Samieian, Co-Founder of Sundays

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do at Sundays.

I’m Barbora, co-founder of Sundays, a furniture company I started six years ago with my husband, sister-in-law, and a close friend. We believe life feels better when you love your home. We make furniture that’s beautiful, timeless, and can handle the chaos of real life. Our goal is to have the whole experience feel as easy and relaxed as a Sunday morning—our favourite time of the week. I work most closely with our marketing, e-commerce, retail, and creative teams. We recently launched a sister brand, Hetta, which is our latest venture.

What is one morning ritual or habit you never skip, no matter how busy life gets?

I’m an early riser and love quiet time before our four kids wake up. I always start with water and a black coffee. My husband and I take turns packing lunches or getting everyone ready for school—it’s no small feat. A few mornings a week, I go to the gym. I started strength training when I turned forty, and it’s become my favorite way to find clarity and peace.

How did your journey into furniture design begin, and what inspires your creative vision today?

My background is in the non-profit world, and later I co-founded a local salad shop, Field & Social, before starting Sundays. I’ve always loved building brands and communities. Working with our team and seeing how people live with our pieces continues to inspire me every day.

Can you share a recent project or piece that felt especially meaningful to you and explain why?

Our New York showroom opening in Flatiron six months ago was a full-circle moment. My husband and I lived in New York when I worked for the UN, and our oldest son was born there. Though we’ve been back in Vancouver for nine years, New York still feels like a second home. Seeing our pieces in that space brought to life so beautifully by our team was surreal.

What is one piece of advice or guiding principle that shapes how you approach both your work and your life?

Done is better than perfect. Getting started is often the hardest part, but taking one small action creates momentum. That mindset has helped me through both work challenges and moments in life that felt overwhelming.

At the end of a busy day, what routines or practices help you reset and maintain balance?

I’m an extroverted introvert and need solo time to recharge—even a 20-minute walk can help me reset. When I get home, I put my phone away (literally high up in my closet) so I can focus on dinner and time with our kids.
